Actor Headshots in Liverpool

Your headshot has one job. It has to look like you right now, and it has to work at thumbnail size before anyone decides to click through.

It sounds obvious but it’s where most headshots fail. An over-retouched photo gets you seen for the wrong parts, and so does one from three years ago.

My goal to get you seen accurately, and seen at your best, which turn out to be the same thing.

Shooting for range, not for one good photo

Casting briefs don't all want the same thing. One wants warmth, the next wants someone you wouldn't want to cross, the next wants stillness. A session that produces one polished look has given you one answer to a question with many versions.

I can help direct you. We'll talk before the camera comes out about the parts you're up for, the ones you keep getting seen for, and the ones you think you should be. Then we work through that range deliberately, changing light and background as we go.

What the session looks like

Up to 4 hours in the studio, one person, no rushing.

  • We talk first about casting, the roles you're chasing, and what your current shots aren't doing for you

  • Different backdrops and lighting setups, so the set has genuine variety - soft, textured, and clean neutral

  • One look or several - bring some changes and I'll help you decide what's working

  • We review together on screen as we go, and if we've missed something we shoot it there and then

  • You choose your images with me afterwards, or in your own time

Most actors leave with between 3-12 images covering a few different looks.

Colour, and black and white if you want it

Colour is what casting expects as your primary image. Skin tone, eye colour and hair all read instantly in colour and get lost in black and white, and casting directors are scanning fast.

So we shoot colour, framed and finished to Spotlight's standards. If you want black and white versions of the shots you buy, say so and I'll include them at no extra cost.

Retouching

Recognition is the entire point, so the retouching stops well short of smoothing you into someone else.

I'll even out skin so it looks like you had a decent night's sleep, tidy stray hairs, and balance the colour. I won't change your face shape, remove the lines that make you look like a person, or produce something that makes a casting director do a double take when you walk in.

If you want something more stylised for a specific purpose, ask before the shoot and we'll plan it.

Price

Ā£150 session fee. That buys the studio time, the direction and a face to face review. Images are chosen and bought separately, so you're not paying in advance for a number you can't judge yet.

Images are £50 each. No fixed packages - I'd rather not decide in advance how many you need.

Students: 20% off the session fee, so £120. Full-time training or within twelve months of finishing for the student rate; just mention your membership or bring your student ID. Image prices are the same. Use code STUDENT26 when booking.

Where, and what to bring

Studio: Unit 2, 23 Roscoe Lane, Liverpool, L1 9JD - city centre, ground floor with step-free access and a private area for changing.

Getting there: Nearest train station Lime Street (national rail), Liverpool Central (Merseyrail). There is on street parking nearby and a multi-story on Renshaw Street (ParkBee).

Bring:

  • A number of tops in colours you wear - solid colours over patterns, necklines you're comfortable in

  • Whatever you normally use on your skin and hair

  • Any current headshots you're unhappy with, so I can see what to avoid

Turnaround: we can review the photos in the session or I can provide a link to look at in your own time. Your chosen images are retouched and delivered within 3 to 5 working days. Sized for Spotlight, casting profiles and your own site. If you need them faster, tell me when you book.

Questions

How often should I update my headshots? When they stop looking like you. Usually every two to three years, but sooner if you've changed your hair significantly, gained or lost noticeable weight, or grown into a different casting bracket.

How many images do I actually need? Most actors use 3-12. You want a main shot doing the heavy lifting and a handful of alternatives covering different casting types. More than that dilutes rather than helps.

I hate having my photo taken. Almost everyone who sits for me says this. It's why the session runs as long as it does and why we talk before we shoot. You don't have to arrive confident.

Can I bring someone with me? Yes, though most people find they relax faster without an audience. Your call.

Do I own the images? You get a licence to use them for your acting work - casting profiles, your website, social, press. I keep the copyright and the right to show the work. If you need full commercial rights, we can sort that separately.

What if I'm not happy? We review properly as we go rather than at the end. If something isn't working, say so during the session, when it's much easier to fix.
