Team headshots in Liverpool for Hassett Homes: Natural Light with a Local Backdrop

When Hassett Homes got in touch about updating their team photos, they were after something simple, natural, and set against a backdrop of Liverpool’s waterfront. Nothing overproduced—just a relaxed shoot in the city that shows the people behind the business. As a photographer, I understand how important it is to listen to clients, understand their goals, and tailor my approach to create images that reflect their vision.
We decided to shoot in a few different locations by the waterfront, using natural light and some of the city’s most iconic architecture as a backdrop. As a professional photographer, with experience in both portrait and commercial photography, part of the role is to help choose locations and styles that best suit each client and ensure a comfortable, enjoyable experience throughout the session.
A Two-Part Shoot: Chasing the Right Light
We originally planned to do everything in one afternoon, but Liverpool had other plans. The sun came out strong—too harsh for the kind of soft, even light we were aiming for. Rather than push through, we rescheduled and returned early the following week. The light was perfect—softer, cleaner, and much more flattering for portraits. As a professional photographer, I pay close attention to detail, ensuring that each session delivers the highest quality results.
This kind of flexibility matters. It’s one of the benefits of working with someone who’s not just focused on speed, but on getting the right result.
Locations That Ground a Brand in Place
We chose several outdoor spots around the Pier Head, including:
The entrance the Mann Island building
A backdrop of clean lines and modern reflections by the Open Eye Gallery
These locations were selected to support Hassett Homes' personal branding, ensuring the settings align with the company's professional identity and values. By photographing the team in these environments, we were able to capture their personality, creating images that reflect both the character of the team and the forward-looking spirit of the business.
A Collaborative, Relaxed Process
One of the things I enjoy most about working with small teams is the energy. Everyone was up for it, open to direction, and brought good ideas to the table. The fun, relaxed environment made it easy to capture genuine moments throughout the session. My job is to make people feel at ease—and in this case, that wasn’t too hard with such a welcoming team. We kept things conversational, moved around freely, and built in space to experiment with groupings, locations, and individual portraits, capturing authentic moments and expressions during the shoot.
Why Natural Light + Cityscapes Work
A lot of people associate corporate photos with plain backgrounds or studio lighting—and those absolutely have their place. But for some businesses, a city-based shoot using natural light can feel more authentic. It shows context. It roots you in your environment. This approach results in amazing photographs that go beyond standard pictures, truly reflecting the people and their story. And it creates portraits that feel less like headshots, and more like you.
